Blackline aquatics tryouts
Blackline Aquatics will have a tryout at Falcon Ridge Middle School at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 26. Blackline Aquatics is a competitive swim club serving the south metro area's novice, advanced and elite level swimmers. The program is for swimmers age 6 and older who can swim 25 yards or more. Sting Soccer Club tryouts
The Sting Soccer Club, fielding competitive boys' and girls' soccer teams for players from Mendota Heights, West St. Paul, St. Paul, Eagan, South St. Paul, Inver Grove Heights and surrounding communities, will hold tryouts Oct. 28-29 (location/times to be announced).
Sting soccer offers multiple levels of competition, MYSA certified coaches, full uniforms, winter training and spring practices. Game play is May through July 2007. Tournaments are offered throughout the season and at districts. Competitive teams play games in appropriate level divisions in the MYSA's East District generally against teams from the southern and eastern suburbs of St. Paul.
Blazettes host dance clinic
The Burnsville Blazettes will be hosting a dance clinic on Saturday, Sept. 30, from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. The clinic is open to girls from K-8. Registration is $35 in advance and $45 at the door. There will be a free dance show at 1 p.m. in the BHS gym; all parents and friends are invited to attend.
Participants will also receive a T-shirt if they register in advance; shirts may available at the door while supplies last. Dance clinic will be taught by the Blazettes and their new fall coaches, Lisa Scheuermann Ferguson and Beth Leighton. This will be a day of fun and instruction, join us and get to know the Blazettes and their new coaches.

Hike it for your health
Let's Hike! will be offered by ISD 191 Adult Continuing Education, Wednesday, Oct. 4, from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at Diamond Education Center. Cost of the hike and class is $12 per person or $19 per pair. The Let's Hike! workshop includes introductory information, information on the best walking techniques, a local hike, plus entry to their choice of any hikes of the more than 200 hiking events during the year. Come dressed to walk.
Kent Barker, hiking coordinator and instructor, is an electrical engineer with cardiovascular medical background and is committed to preventive health care.
BHS girls' hockey meeting
A preseason meeting for the Burnsville High School girls' hockey team will be held on Monday, Oct. 9, at 6 p.m. in Room C180. For more information, contact the girls' head coach Bruce Anderson at (952) 707-2246.
Blanchette honored by NCC
After scoring a golden goal in overtime last Friday, junior forward Keri Blanchette, Burnsville, of the Minnesota State University women's soccer team, was named North Central Conference Co-Offensive Player of the Week by the league office.
It is the first Athlete of the Week honor of Blanchette's career and the first for any women's soccer Maverick this season. She shares the weekly honor with senior forward Abby Bollig of the University of Minnesota Duluth.
Blanchette netted her second goal of the season 3:58 into the first overtime period last Friday, lifting the Mavericks to a 2-1 victory over St. Cloud State University. The win marked the team's first league victory of the season and boosted its overall record to 2-4-1.
Bleeker named player of week
Cornell women's soccer player Sara Bleeker, of Apple Valley, was named Iowa Conference Player of the Week for the period ending Sept. 10.
Bleeker, a sophomore midfielder, scored five goals and added an assist for 11 points in three games during the week. In the Rams' 6-0 victory over Concordia (Ill.) she scored a school-record four goals including the game-winner. She scored Cornell's lone goal in a 9-1 loss to Wisconsin-LaCrosse and registered an assist in a 5-1 victory over Waldorf.
Bleeker, a 2005 graduate of Eastview High School, is the daughter of Lyle and Karen Bleeker.
Volleyball league in Rosemount
Rosemount Parks and Recreation is taking registrations for the 2006 fall adult co-rec recreational volleyball leagues. Games are played on Friday evenings at the Rosemount Middle School. All participants must be 18 years of age or older to play. League fee is $80. Registration deadline is Wednesday, Sept. 27. Interested teams should contact the Rosemount Parks and Recreation Office at (651) 322-6011. Leagues are scheduled to begin in October.
