Prior Lake-Savage School District students will be taking a new test starting this year.
The Measures of Academic Progress (MAP) test will be given to students in grades two through eight as well as ninth- and 10th-graders who are in selected reading and math classes.
The MAP test will also replace the Metropolitan Achievement Test for third-and sixth-graders.
"We felt that the MAP test was a better and more reliant indicator of student growth," said Nancy Allen-Mastro, director of curriculum, instruction and assessment at School District 719.
The test is designed to determine an individual student's growth in reading and math from an scale that measures in equal intervals similar to inches on a ruler, Allen-Mastro said.
"We felt that the information from this test will provide us with diagnostic information on individual students," Allen-Mastro said.
Students will be given the test twice a year: once in the fall and again in the spring to determine students' progress over the school year.
Prior Lake-Savage students have been taking the initial test between Sept. 25 and Oct. 11. Another test will be given from May 8 to May 25.
