To the editor:

I found the letter from Rep. Lloyd Cybart, R-Apple Valley, an interesting exercise in explanation about being engaged in local schools. His record is actually one of dismantling our public school system along with other members of his caucus who would favor funding private schools which can restrict who gains admission. So it's no wonder he received an "Fî on his report card from the Children's Defense Fund.

Police chiefs in a group called Fight Crime: Invest in Kids say there is a definite link between funding of public schools and a child's success in their future. That's why Shelley Madore is a strong supporter of public education. She's running in House District 37A, and she says a community's stability and future depends on a great education for all kids today. As a parent who has been actively involved in all aspects of our public education system, she understands that funding must fully develop children with special needs as future contributors to our society, and provide a quality education for all kids. Without the funding Rep. Cybart has worked to cut, all kids will fail.
