Benefit raises money
The Skate with the Irish - Peter Eigner Benefit was held Wednesday, Nov. 22. Thanks to the Rosemount community, $2,300 was raised and given to the Ty Eigner family to help with expenses as their 4-year-old son, Peter, battles cancer. Peter is the grandson of retired Rosemount High School teacher, Mary Eigner. Ty Eigner is a former Rosemount boys' hockey coach and teacher.
EVHS hockey Youth Night
The Eastview High School Blue Line Club announces its annual Youth Night on Saturday, Dec. 16. Youth are admitted free when wearing an Eastview hockey jersey and donating a canned good for local food shelves (one per family). The J.V. game is at 12:15 p.m. and varsity game at 2:30 p.m. at the Apple Valley Sports Center on Hayes Road. Eastview will face Bloomington Jefferson High School. Enjoy a great hockey game and youth can stick around after the game for free refreshments, team posters and autographs from your EVHS high school team. Skating will not be available but stay to meet and greet the players.
Blazettes start season with win
The Burnsville Blazettes jazz dance team took home first place at its first Lake Conference competition in Eden Prairie as it performed to the song "Diamonds Are A Girl's Best Friend."
They set the bar high with a dazzling performance. The Blazettes have made a name for themselves as a high kick team over the years.
Last year's team finished second in the High Kick state tournament and for the first time was a finalist in the Jazz state tournament. With many returning members, the jazz team is off to a great start with a first place in the Jazz/Funk category.
The Burnsville Blazettes are coached by Jennifer Shue and Maggie Arvesen. Captains of the 40-member team are Jayne Knaeble, Sarah Lempelius, Mari Mills and Hayley Rice. The team consists of 15 seniors, 11 juniors, 10 sophomores, and four freshmen. The jazz team is a smaller team of 16 members.
The Lake Conference dance teams begin their High Kick schedule Dec. 7 at Bloomington Jefferson and Dec. 11 at Eagan High School. All competition start times are 7:30 p.m.
The Dance Team Lake Conference finals will be held at Lakeville North this year. The date and time is Dec. 16 at 11 a.m.
BHS alumni swim meet
The Burnsville High School girls' and boys' swimming teams will be hosting their annual alumni meet Friday, Dec. 22 at the high school pool. Warmups will begin at 5:30 p.m., with the meet starting at 6:30 p.m. All alumni and families are invited to attend. A social will follow the meet in the teacher's lounge at the school. AV offers volleyball leagues
Apple Valley Park and Recreation is offering women's and men's unofficiated volleyball leagues to be played on Thursday evenings beginning Jan. 4. The co-rec unofficiated volleyball leagues play Friday evenings beginning Jan. 5. Class A, B, C and D will be offered. The cost is $85 for nine matches plus playoffs. The women's power officiated volleyball league plays Tuesday evenings beginning Jan. 9. The cost is $155 for nine matches plus playoffs. The registration deadline for all volleyball leagues is Monday, Dec. 11. Contact the recreation office at (952) 953-2300 for a registration packet.
Full court basketball leagues
Men's A and B full court officiated basketball leagues will play Tuesday evenings beginning Jan. 9 and the men's 30 and over and division one and two unofficiated basketball leagues will play on Wednesday, Jan. 10. The cost per team is $415 for the officiated leagues and $205 per team for unofficiated leagues. Both include nine games plus playoffs. The registration deadline for full court leagues is Friday, Dec. 29. Contact the Apple Valley recreation office at (952) 953-2300 for a registration packet.
Outdoor hockey league
Unofficiated adult 4 on 4 outdoor hockey is open to players 18 years and older with games being played at the Apple Valley Community Center rinks on Wednesday evenings beginning on Jan. 10 or on Saturday mornings beginning Jan. 6, weather permitting. Each team will play up to six games for a fee of $90 per team, due by Friday, Dec. 22. Wiffleball league in AV
Unofficiated adult men's wiffleball league is open to players 18 years and older and games will be played at the Apple Valley Community Center on Sunday evenings beginning Feb. 25 through April 22. Each team will play up to five to six weeks plus playoffs for a fee of $50 per team, due by Friday, Feb. 16. Contact the Apple Valley Parks and Recreation Department at (952) 953-2300 for more information and registration materials. A managers' meeting for all registered teams will be held on Sunday, Feb. 25 at 4:30 p.m. at the AVCC to review the rules and answer any questions.
Hamline hosts spring training
Hamline University will host a six-week Spring Training 2007 baseball program for players in grades 1 through 12 from Jan. 6 to Feb. 10. Hamline University head coach Jason Verdugo will direct the program in conjunction with Midwest Baseball Academy. Sessions are offered in advanced hitting and pitching at a cost of $98 for six weeks.
