An Apple Valley man was arrested after the vehicle he was allegedly driving at high speeds crashed and burst into flames last Friday.

An Apple Valley police officer traveling eastbound on McAndrews Road near Cedar Avenue saw a vehicle traveling in the opposite direction at an estimated speed of 100 miles per hour at 1:20 a.m. July 29, police said.

As the officer turned his squad car around, he saw that the speeding car had lost control, struck a curb and crashed into a wooded area near the intersection on McAndrews Road and Pennock Avenue, police said.

Arriving at the scene, the officer found a 2000 Lexus on fire in the woods, police said.

Additional police officers and members of the Apple Valley Fire Department extinguished the fire and extricated Sean B. McGuire, 18, of Burnsville, from the vehicle.

McGuire was transported to Regions Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, police said.

Two other occupants of the vehicle ñ Michael A. Meyers, 18, of Apple Valley, and Anthony L. Wagner, 18, of Burnsville ñ had allegedly fled the scene and were later located by police.

Police said their investigation determined that Meyers was the driver of the vehicle.

Meyers was charged with criminal vehicular operation and was sent to the Dakota County Jail, police said.

Meyers could face jail time, police said.

Police said the initial investigation indicates both speed and alcohol contributed to the crash.
