Applauds therapy center
To the editor:
The story of Children's Therapy Center and founder Sue Lacher (Thisweek, Aug. 6) is totally inspiring. The early diagnosis of challenges for children and effective therapy to enable them to lead full and productive lives is something we can all be proud of. The fact that insurance will pay for most services at the center is a great accomplishment, and the idea that some children may not have access to these services through lack of insurance may represent a great loss to them, their families and the total community.
Who knows what great contribution may come from a child otherwise unable to deliver his or her gift to the world? We need certainty that each child really does have a chance at achieving his or her potential. Each of us may be aware of a relative who, challenged in one respect, is tremendously productive in some other area of life. We must not turn a deaf ear to the needs of such young people and their families.
It's said that the quality of a society may be judged by the way it permits its vulnerable citizens to be well and safe, and contribute to the good of all. Congratulations and thanks to the Children's Therapy Center and Sue Lacher for their vital work in furthering this vision. They have a lesson for all of us to learn.
