Lakevilleís Vinny Flury has committed to play football at the Air Force Academy.

Flury made the decision this past weekend after a he visited the campus in Colorado Springs, Colo.

The Air Force Academy was one of the only Division I schools to recruit Flury, after two strong seasons as the top wide receiver at Lakeville High School.

Flury caught more passes than anyone else in Minnesota the last two years and helped lead Lakeville to the state title this past fall.

ìThey called a couple of weeks ago, and I went out there and I get to play early,î Flury said.

Flury was waiting for the Division I programs to call after the football season, but they never came. He sat around and watched other players sign National Letters of Intent, while he was getting no interest despite the numbers he put up the last two seasons.

ìI was really surprised. I was expecting a lot more interest,î Flury said.

Flury visited Minnesota, but they didnít make an offer.

Many told Flury that he was too small to play Division I football.

He hopes at the Air Force Academy that he can prove them wrong.

ìFor every game, I am going to wear a shirt of a school that passed on me and every time I score, I am going to lift my shirt and show it to everybody,î Flury said.

Flury was resigned to the fact that he may have to play Division II or III football, but Air Force called and surprised him.

ìIt was out of the blue,î Flury said.

A good thing about going to the Air Force is that he will play in the slot position, the same position he played at Lakeville. Flury may not see the ball a lot as Air Force is a running team and is based on the triple option. Despite that Flury said the coaching staff said he will get a chance to play right away.

ìI think I have a good chance of playing my freshman year,î Flury said.

Flury doesnít know what his major his going to be yet but he knows he wonít be flying any planes.

ìMy eyes are too bad for that,î he said.
