Panther girls qualify for state

In a tight race, the Lakeville girlsí cross country team qualified for the state cross country meet this weekend.

The Panthers edged Dover-Eyota-St. Charles for first place in the Section 1AA meet at Brooktree Golf Course in Owatonna on Thursday, Oct. 23.

Lakeville won the meet with 46 points while Dover-Eyota-St. Charles finished second with 48 points. Both teams qualified for the state meet.

Besides winning the team event, sophomore Elizabeth Yetzer won the individual meet with a time of 14:17.7.

Her older sister, Annie Yetzer, finished fourth with a time of 14:35.2.

The Yetzer sisters were the only Panther runners to finish in the top 10 but had the next four finish in the top-16.

After Annie, seventh-grader Michele Volz finished in 12th place with a time of 15:33.1.

Sophomore Laura Roach was close behind in 14th place with a time of 15:37.8.

Seventh-grader Solange Miller and eighth-grader Abby Kruse finished 15th and 16th, respectively.

For the Lakeville boysí team, they just missed qualifying for state.

The Panthers finished third with 93 points behind Northfieldís 86 points and Winonaís 89 points. The top two teams advance to the state meet.

Lakevilleís top three runners had them in second place but Northfieldís and Winonaís fourth through sixth runners bested the Panthers and edged them for state.

Lakeville is sending one runner to the state meet. Sophomore Tim Bruhn qualified with his fifth-place finish. His time was 16:20.2

Sophomore Kevin Barr and junior Dan Johnson just missed qualifying for state.

Barr finished 11th with a time of 16:48.2, while Johnson finished 12th with a time of 16:56.7. Only the top 10 individuals qualify for state.

Bruhn missed 10th place by just two seconds.

Following Johnson, was freshman Paul Hilsen who finished in 32nd place with a time of 17:24. Ben Plankis followed Hilsen home in 33rd place with a time of 17:26.

Karl Nygren finished 39th.
Farmington

The Farmington cross country teams struggled at the section meeting, but there was a positive that came out of the race.

That is that junior Ben Kampf continued his strong cross country season and qualified for state.

Kampf qualified with an eighth-place finish. His time was 16:37.3

After Kampf the team struggled to an 11th place finish. The Tigers had 314 points.

Kampf was followed by senior Mike Nezworski in 63rd, freshman Cory Ford in 71st, freshman Andrew Bigalke in 85th, Curt Baker in 87th and Nick Pipho in 89th place.

For the Farmington girlsí team, it was a struggle.

The Tigers finished in last place with 433 points.

Senior Shawna Speas led the team with her time of 17:43.4, which placed her in 71st.

Freshman Mollie McMahon finished in 73rd place, while eighth-graders Kelsie Supes and Hannah McMahon finished in 92nd and 96th, respectively.
