AV AD earns top distinction

Apple Valley athletic director Scott Larson has been recognized by the National Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association as a certified athletic administrator. To earn this distinction, Larson has demonstrated the highest level of knowledge and expertise in the field of interscholastic athletic administration. The voluntary certification process included a thorough evaluation of the his educational background, experience and professional contributions, as well as a rigorous, comprehensive written exam. He is one of an elite group of interscholastic athletic administrators nationwide to attain this level.

A couple of schools have announced the hiring of new coaches in the past few weeks. At Rosemount High School, athletic director Mike Manning has hired Don Michelleti to be the Irishís new head boysí hockey coach. Michelleti is a former captain for the University of Minnesota hockey team. At Apple Valley, Laura Morgan has been named the new girlsí swimming coach, replacing Jennifer Clauson. Morgan was an all-state swimmer at Wayzata and the school record-holder at New Mexico State University. She most recently served has head coach at Bloomington Jefferson from 1999 to present. Eastview High School has announced the hiring of Rebecca Egan as the head volleyball coach.ÝEgan is a graduate of Bloomington Jefferson High School where she was a five-year starter for the team.Ý She led the Jaguars to four state tournament appearances and earned all-state honors three times and was named the Prep Volleyball Player of the Year by the Star Tribune in 1993. She was also a member of the USA Today and Volleyball Monthly All-American teams in 1993.ÝEgan attended the University of Minnesota and was a four-year starter for its volleyball team.Ý She led the team to one NIT and two NCAA tournament appearances while earning All-Big Ten honors and Academic All-Big Ten honors.Ý She was also a team captain and was named the Big Ten tournament MVP.Ý In 2001 Egan was inducted into the University of Minnesota Hall of Fame.ÝEgan has experience as an assistant coach at Mahtomedi High School and Bloomington Jefferson High School, was assistant volleyball coach at Concordia University-St. Paul for two years and has served as both an assistant and head coach at Eastview High School.Ý She is also a physical education and health instructor at Eastview.Ý

Congratulations go out to Apple Valleyís Mike Lundin and Lakevilleís Liz Podominick. Lundin was named the StarTribuneís Metro Boys Hockey Player of the Year and was named by the Associated Press as the State Player of the Year. For Podominick, she was named Miss Basketball for the second year in a row.

Rosemountís Kyle Marxhausen will be on the Gold team for the Minnesota Basketball Coaches Association All-Star Basketball series. The series will be played Friday, April 4 at Halenbeck Hall in St. Cloud and Saturday, April 5 at Gangelhoff Center at Concordia
University.

Angela Klatt, a 2000 graduate of Eagan High School is the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Indoor Track champion in the 55- and 200-meter dashes and a member of the championship 4x200 and 4x400 relay teams. This is her third consecutive year as the 200-meter champion. Klatt is a two-time Division III Indoor Track All-American and has earned All-American honors three times in track. She competes for the University of Wisconsin-LaCrosse Eagles.

Eastview girlsí basketball head coach Paul Goetz has been named Section 1AAAA and Class AAAA State Girlsí Basketball Coach of the Year.

Ryan Jerle, a 1996 graduate of Eagan High School, accepted a position as pitching coach last fall at Dakota State University in
Madison, S.D.Ý

Mark Nordell, of Apple Valley, is a sophomore at Bemidji State University and is a member of the track and field team. He competes in both the long and triple jumps.

Katie Schwarz, a sophomore at Anderson University took part in the Universal Cheerleading Association Nationals held in Disney World. The team took third place in Division II small coed out of 13 squads. Schwarz is a native of Apple Valley.

Burnsvilleís Trent Larson is a junior shortstop for Gustavus. He recently went 4 for 7 in a sweep of Northland College.

Lakevilleís Alexis Thoms is a freshman pitcher for the University of Wisconsin-Platteville softball team.

ï ï ï ï ï ï ï ï

There are three area athletes on the University of Wisconsin-Stout baseball team. Junior James Foreman (Apple Valley), freshman Tim Nielson (Rosemount) and John Englund (Lakeville) are all on the roster.

Jennifer Sabatka, a 2002 graduate of Lakeville High School, is a member of the University of Minnesota Competition Cheerleading squad. She also cheers for football and basketball.
