The Eagan hockey teams came up just short of claiming two holiday titles.

Both the boysí and girlsí hockey teams at Eagan lost in the championship game of their holiday tournaments to take second place.

For the girlsí team, they participated in the Stillwater Tournament where they gave up four unanswered goals to Cloquet in the final two periods of the championship game to lose 5-3.

The Wildcats came out flying in the first period jumping out to a 3-1 lead.

Just three minutes into the game, junior Molly Doyle scored on an assist from Jenelle Phillipczyk.

Cloquet tied the game up four minutes later but then Doyle scored her second goal of the game on another assist from Phillipczyk.

Phillipczyk made the score 3-1 just before the period ended on an assist from freshman Lindsay Gorman.

Thatís when the bottom fell out for the Wildcats as Cloquet scored four straight goals to claim the title.

In the second period, Cloquet scored just a minute into the period to cut the lead to 3-2.

Eagan was able to keep them off the board for the rest of the second period, but not for the third period.

Cloquet scored three times in five minutes to take the lead.

Two of the three goals were on the power play.

Before that period, Eagan played well throughout the tournament by defeating Henry-Sibley 5-3 and Stillwater 7-5.

Against Stillwater it became the Doyle Phillipczyk show.

Both players recorded hat tricks. Doyle also added two assists to have a five-point game.

Against Henry-Sibley, Doyle and Phillipczyk each scored a goal but Ashley Reinhardt was the offensive star as she scored twice and assisted on another goal.

Phillipczyk assisted on three of the five goals.

For the tournament, Doyle scored five goals and Phillipczyk scored five goals and assisted on five others.

As for the boysí team, they competed in the South St. Paul Premier tournament.

The Wildcats made it all the way to the championship game before losing to Coon Rapids 7-2.

Eagan fell behind 4-0 before Tom May scored two straight goals to cut the lead to 4-2.

But that was as close as the Wildcats would get as Coon Rapids pumped in three more goals to claim the title and send Eagan home with the second place trophy.

Maybe the Wildcats were tired in the championship game from the semifinal game they had against Anoka.

The Wildcats needed overtime to defeat Eagan 5-4.

The Wildcats scored five goals on 17 shots.

Eagan needed to score twice in the third period just to send the game into overtime.
