This isnít last yearís team.

Last year the Apple Valley boysí hockey team won on speed and offensive firepower.

This year the Eagles are winning with hot goaltending and defense.

That was the formula the Eagles used on Tuesday night to defeat Eden Prairie 2-0.

Despite being outshot 47-13, Apple Valley improved its Lake Conference-best record to 6-1-2.

The star of the game was Apple Valley goalie Matt Lundin.

He stopped all 47 shots, most in spectacular fashion, to lead the Eagles to victory.

With the shutout, Lundin dropped his goals-against average to .85 and save percentage of 95.9 percent.

Many of Lundinís best saves came in the third period when Eden Prairie put the most pressure on him and the Eaglesí defense.

Eden Prairie fired 24 shots in the third period alone and was buzzing around looking for the first goal.

But Lundin kept them at bay. Matt Lundin wasnít the only Lundin who had a big day.

Older brother Mike Lundin scored the Eaglesí second goal of the game at 8:58 of the third period. The power-play goal was assisted by Dan Sexton and Nick OíBrien.

Apple Valleyís first goal also came on the power play, at 11:05 of the first period.

Josh Swenson scored the first goal on assists from Alex Coles and Luke Hughes.
